Doggy Treats

If you’re a pet lover, you’ll love this book to pamper your dog, The Ultimate Dog Treat Cookbook. It has a variety of treats, 50 to be exact, that are vet-approved. The recipes are easy to make, with some made completely from scatch and others using ingredients that you can easily find at the store for a quick treat. Since many dogs have allergies, there’s even a chapter that addresses dogs with special needs.

If you’re not good at cooking or just want a quick treat, you can always pick up a gourmet dog treat at your local pet boutique or from an online store.

Making Your Home

Although you may never have thought about it, I found an interesting book, The Wedding Present: Domestic Life Beyond Consumption, lately that examines how homes are made, starting from marriage and examining it throughout the years. It examines our material possessions in our home life, such as when we get china dishes and other gifts from our wedding. From china replacement dish services to giving wedding gifts such as toasters, this book looks deeper than most people have even thought about how their daily spending and marriage are intertwined.

Hauntings for Halloween

Around Halloween I love to get my fill of scary movies and stories. I remember reading as a kid a book of scary ghost stories that always gave me the shivers. This year I decided to go back to that tradition and pick up a book of real ghost stories.

Based on positive reviews, I bought Haunted Heritage: A Definitive Collection of North American Ghost Stories. It had a good variety of stories, including stories ranging from creepy to the outrageous. I particularly enjoyed that he went over a wide range of time periods and areas, all the way back to the 1600s. He was very detailed and provided plenty of history as well, which I love to learn and found fascinating.

Besides reading ghost stories, I’m going to see Saw IV and go to a haunted house this Denver Halloween. If you’re in the area, I would recommend you see some of the best Halloween has to offer in Denver, Colorado. Just make sure to get your fill of the spooky before October ends!

Changing Careers?

Me too…

Check out Career Match, a fascinating read about finding an occupation that you are passionate about.  Currently in the midst of a career change myself (or a mid-life crisis, as my wife attests), the book was instrumental in helping me pinpoint a job that would not only bring me satisfaction but success as well.

My mother thinks I should get a truck driving job, just like my pops has had for years.  My brother-in-law suggested a Chippendale’s dancer, much to my wife’s chagrin.  Last but not least, my sister encouragingly suggested going to work for a competitor of my former employer.

Whatever I decide on doing, I felt heartened after reading this book, which surprisingly felt personal and customized as I was reading it.  Whatever it was, I would high recommend it to anyone who is struggling to find the career that best suits them.

Creating a Family

Discovering that you are infertile is a devastating experience. I know because it wasn’t too long ago that I was faced with this condition. Although I knew about the IVF treatments that were available, my husband and I decided to adopt.

There are so many children already out there that need parents so adoption seemed the perfect choice. We’ve talked about adopting since we were engaged, particularly adopting an interracial child. I always like to do my research, so I picked up the book, The Complete Adoption Book. It gave me information about everything involved in adoption. I felt better prepared when we talked with an adoption agency and began our search for our child. I would recommend it for anyone considering adoption.

Planning for a Swiss Hiking Tour

Vacations abroad oftentimes require a great deal of planning in order to make them successful, especially if the travel includes hiking, backpacking, or other outdoor adventures.

When hiking or backpacking, planning ahead is essential for both safety and enjoyment. It’s important to know what you’re getting into so you know what to pack. If the weather is going to be cold, it’s important to pack many layers so you’re not freezing. On the contrary, if the weather is warm, you don’t want to be burdened down with unnecessary bulky jackets.

A good planning book for Swiss Hiking tours can be found here. It can be helpful if you’re planning your own vacation.

If you want to have a guide for hiking in the swiss alps, however, there are many that can do a great job showing you the best sites and scenery. Even if you hire a guide, however, be sure to talk with them ahead of time so you can plan out what you need to bring, what they will bring, and what you can expect.

Planning ahead can make the trip more enjoyable for everyone involved.

Saving Money

Over the last year my husband and I have been trying to get out of debt. Since food expenses take up a large portion of our income (such as eating out), we’ve been looking for ways to eat healthy at home for less money. We found the answer in Dining on a Dime Cookbook. It provided easy recipes that worked for the frugal family. They tasted great and cost less. The book also includes lots of great tips for saving money in other areas of the household, such as cleaning supplies and organizing.

Now that we are saving money in other areas of our life, we have extra money to put towards paying off credit cards and our mortgage. The experts at United First Financial have helped us put together a plan to get out of debt. You’d be amazed at what you can save with a little planning and some help from others.

Weight Loss…Again

It’s the small and simple things you do and change that will eventually result in successful weight loss.

In my ongoing struggle to lose weight, a friend recommended “1001 Simple Ways to Lose Weight.  Ever the skeptic, I was rather pessimistic despite her assertions that the book can really help you lose weight and keep it off.  Much to my surprise, the book is actually quite good.  Rather than focusing on big (unrealistic) goals, it talks about small and simple steps to lose weight.

The book is filled with simple ideas, tips, and immediate solutions for small everyday weight loss.  While it is slow going at first (as the weight loss process typically is), I started to see results after a few weeks with the small changes and steps I was making; if the book had suggested anything bigger or more demanding, I never would have stuck with a new regiment.  It also reminded me of all the small and simple yet effective things that will add up and help me lose the weight.

Whether it is a new exercise routine, a weight loss pill, or healthier eating habits, this book will help you, one baby step at a time, lose weight and keep it off.

Selling Products on eBay

After a short time of selling products on eBay, I decided to pursue it full-time. I talked to some other sellers to get some ideas how I could increase my profits from a side income to a full-time income. I had several people suggest that I sell a dropship product.

It sounded simple enough. After browsing a dropshipper’s products, I could choose the retail mark-up and list the product on my auction site. As soon as a consumer bought the product, I ordered it from the dropshipper and they took care of the shipping. It would save me time by not having to deal with shipping or returns.

Being a cautious person, I decided to further investigate how beneficial dropshipping would be for my business, if it was the most cost-efficient way of ordering products. I picked up the book Ebay Inventory the Smart Way, which was a simple guide to sourcing products and making money online. I decided to try using a dropshipper, and now I make a full-time income that was better than my previous job by selling on eBay. Dropshipping has made my life easier and I love the flexible schedule being an eBay seller gives me.
