Ok, they may not be “hot” but laptop locks is a technology that should be utilized by every lawyer.  Typically a cable device outfitted with a key or combination lock, laptop locks can deter theft (according to recent stats, laptops are the number one item stolen from hotels and in airports).

A smartphone, whether it’s a BlackBerry, iPhone, or a Palm Pre, can be one of the biggest and most effective productivity tools that allows you to work remotely without being tied to the office.  Send and receive emails, manage your calendar, and browse online no matter where you are.

Anti-Spyware
A centrally-managed enterprise version of a comprehensive anti-spyware program can protect office computers from Trojans, adware, malware, and other harmful spyware that can wipe entire hard drives.  Opt for a program from a vendor that explicitly provides anti-spyware applications – they tend to be more powerful, secure, and effective than other (cheaper) alternatives.

Internet Storage
Internet storage has become a popular and affordable way to secure critical business documents and files.  Whereas traditional backup methods, such as external hard drives and compact discs, are cumbersome and prone to physical damage, online internet storage offers secure and remote backups that can be easily and quickly recovered in the event the originals are ever damaged or destroyed. Given the amount of paperwork lawyers accumulate, it also solves the ever-present issue of a lack of storage space.
