New Part-Time Job

This year my husband and I are making a resolution to get out of debt. The first step in this process was of course to budget accordingly.

The second was to earn more income to pay off tens of thousands of dollars in escalated debt. We both work full-time and getting a second job sounded exhausting.

Instead, I am going to work part-time selling items on eBay. I know many people do it full-time, using a dropship service to supply products. My husband bought me eBay Business All-in-One Desk Reference for Dummies for Christmas so I can immediately get started on my new business. I can’t wait for my new business to get started and to be completely debt-free!

An Internship and Your Dream Career

For the new year, make a resolution to better yourself intellectually. If you’re a student, or just want to make a career change, consider getting an internship to boost your success in a new career. If you go to college, your local career and internship center can help you find an internship. If not, or for more help, read The Intern Files: How to Get, Keep, and Make the Most of Your Internship. It’s a great guide and student resource.

For those looking to go into the difficult world of radio, TV broadcasting, or film, check out the Get a Mentor program to help you land an internship and set you up with a one-on-one mentor. Both these things combined can give you the inside knowledge and experience which will easily lead you into the career world.

Holiday Tasks

Although I’m a DIY type of person, mainly because of my frugal nature, the holidays are the one time when I would rather have someone else do tasks for me. For instance, I’d rather buy a holiday card than make it during this busy time of year.

Although I enjoy cooking, I hire a fabulous Salt Lake City catering company to bring the food for my annual Christmas party with family and friends.

I delegate tasks to my husband and children, such as putting up and decorating the tree and house if I don’t have time to do it all myself. They have fun together, and it makes less work for me.

Unfortunately, since no one can go shopping for me, I do have to do that myself.

Try this type of delegation for the holidays to save you time during this busy, festive time of year.

Personal Finance

After reading a few finance books, such as Young, Fabulous and Broke by Suze Orman and Personal Finance for Dummies, 5th edition, I decided to live debt-free and start investing my money. With some encouragement, I convinced my husband to penny-pinch enough to work for an early mortgage payoff.

With our mortgage completely paid off, we are debt free and investing our money in other areas. At this rate, we hope to retire before we reach 50!
